Welcome to the 5th Edition of the Magnus High School and Junior High Chess League!

           This coming Sunday, October 15th, please join us for our first match of the Magnus High School Chess League for the 2017-2018 academic year!



           Our hosts once again will be Columbia Grammar and Prep, 36 West 93rd Street (just west of Central Park West), New York City (we will play in the high school cafeteria as before).   Please arrive about 9:30 am.
 

Our Magnus League time control:  Game/60 + 10-second delay (please bring a delay clock if you have one).  

 
    We have a NEW format for the Magnus League:

 
    1. We our open to players in Grades 7-12 (who are also born after 3/4/1998).    

 
    2. Players can play as individuals as well as part of a school team. 
 
        We have both individual and team prizes!

 
    3. We also have Mixed Doubles Bonus Prizes!

 
    4. Our prizes include free entry to Continental Chess tournaments (see below)!

 
    5. We have two rounds each date-- twelve games total-- at 10:00 am and 12:30 pm.

 
    6. We now have three separate sections:  1. Premier (for players rated 1800 and above);  2. Under 1800 and
 
        3. Under 1200.
 
 
    7.  Entries may be limited to the first 60 players to register for each date!
 
    
 
    Players can register on the Magnus Chess League website, beginning this Thursday October 12th, until 4:00 pm Saturday October 14th, at  www.magnusleague.org
 

    The entry fee is $375 for a team of four players from the same school for the entire season (for all six Magnus match dates:  twelve games total for each player).  A school can have the same four players or four different players on each match date.  There is a limit of two teams per school.

     The entries may be paid by a check (or purchase order) from the school, payable to:  Chess Center of New York, P.O. Box 4615, New Windsor, NY  12553.

Rds.: 10 am-12:30 pm (earlier if feasible) each date. Ent: Applications and EF accepted online, may be paid by school. All: Each date’s games submitted for rating prior to next date’s games. Players must re-register before each date; official USCF rating list in effect on each date used for that date (unofficial ratings usually used if otherwise unrated or if requesting to play in Premier). Unr. may enter section 2 or 3 (or Premier by TD permission). Limit 6 byes (2 byes max. rds. 9-12), commit before Jan. 28. Teammate pairings avoided but possible. Ties for free entries decided by tiebreak except playoff May 6 between top 2 on tiebreak (may be fast game). Special Bonus Points may be awarded each date! Bring clocks!
