NEW YORK STATE
SCHOLASTIC CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS!

     A 6-Round, Swiss-System Chess Tournament, one hour per player, open to all in grades K-12
from any state (except the K-1 Section on Feb 27 only, is 4 rounds, 30 minutes per player). The
winners are recognized by the NY State Chess Association as the 2005 NY Scholastic Chess Champions!

	Location:  The luxurious Prime Hotel and Conference Center Tournament Hotel, 534 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, NY (I-87 Northway
Exit 13-N, 28 miles north of Albany, then 4 miles north on US 9):  518-584-4000.  Special hotel room
rates:  $99 per room IF RESERVED BY FEBRUARY 1st (mention chess tournament when calling
hotel; 7 day notice required to cancel reservations). Reserve rooms ASAP-- hotel may sell out

     The tournament is divided into six separate sections.

     1. Primary, open to all grades K-3.  Entry Fee (EF): $60 at site.
     2. Elementary Championship, open to all grades K-6. EF: $60 at site.
     3. Elementary Novice, open to K-6, rated Under 1000 or Unrated. EF: $60 at site.
     4. Junior High, grades K-9.  EF: $60 at site.
     5. High School, grades K-12 (top NY high-school player qualifies for the Denker National Tournament of 
         State High School Champions at the U.S. Open in August. EF: $60 at site.
     6. Primary K-1 (Sunday Feb 27 only), for 1st grade/below. EF: $50 at site.
The February 21st deadline for registering in advance is over.
All additional entries for this event will be accepted at site only:
from 6 pm - 11:00 pm Friday and from 9:00-10:15 am only 
at the Prime Hotel on the day of  the tournament.  
     PLAYERS WHO REGISTER AFTER 10:15 AM 
MISS THE FIRST ROUND, AND RECEIVE A ½-POINT BYE INSTEAD.
The on-site entry fee is $60 per player.
All players must also be current U.S.C.F. members:

	On-site entry fee: $60 per player (K-1 section only: $50 on-site).

      Trophies awarded to the 20 top-scoring players, the 3 best-scoring Unrated players and the 10
top-scoring schools, in each section!  Trophies also awarded to the Top 2 scorers in each class: Class B, 
Under 1600 (High School), C, Under 1400 (Junior High), D, Under 1200 (Elementary), Under 800 (K-1). 
Any number may enter from a school, to help compete for team prizes, but a school's four top-scoring players 
produce its team score (2 or more from a school needed for a team, all on team must attend same school). 
Those without teams compete for individual trophies. 

     GAME TIMES:    Saturday  11 am,  2 pm and 5 pm; 
						 Sunday    10 am,  12:30 pm  and 3:30 pm.
       K-1 Section only is on Sunday Feb. 27 only:
				                   10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, and 3:30 pm.
The Awards Ceremony is scheduled to begin at 6:00 or 6:30 pm on Sunday.
     Those unable to play all the games may request ½-point byes in advance for rounds they won't
play (limit of 2 byes, byes in rounds 5-6 must commit before round 3).
	Current U.S. Chess Federation Membership is required to participate (in any USCF-rated tournament 
in the US).  USCF membership dues: age 19/below, $25 extra per player for 12 issues of Chess Life magazine or 
$19 extra for 6 issues (age 14/below). Entry fees also include required 1-year NYS Chess Association (NYSCA) membership as well, 
including 4 issues Empire Chess magazine (ONLY NY players who joined NYSCA after April 2004 may deduct $11 NYSCA 
dues from entry fee and receive no NYSCA membership or Empire Chess magazine).

      Each substitution from advance entry list charged $60!
      Refunds: $6 service charge for each player refund requested after February 23.

"QUICK CHESS" CHAMPIONSHIP!
    5-Round, Swiss-System chess tournament, 10 minutes per player (GAME/10), open to all in
grades K-12, Prime Host Hotel, 534 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, New York: 518-584-4000 (see
New York State Scholastic Championships, OVER, for hotel rates, directions, etc).
      Rated in USCF's "Quick Chess" Rating System-- completely separate from your regular rating 
(but regular ratings used for prizes and pairings). Trophies awarded to the top 10 finishers and top 5 schools.
Special plaques will also be awarded to the top 3 scorers in each level:  K-3, 4-6, 7-8, and 9-12!
     Quick Chess Entry Fee:  $30 per player.  On-site entries accepted 4:30-6 pm February 25.
     Game Times:  7:00, 7:45, 8:30, 9:15, and 10:00 pm February 25th.
