CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP!

SATURDAY MAY 31, 2014: 
 
      NEW Tournament site!  The O'Connor Hall in the historic St. Francis of Assisi Church, 
145 Benkard Avenue, Newburgh, NY.
 
     Format:  a 4-Round, Swiss-System tournament (everyone plays all 5 rounds,
no one is eliminated), open to those born after 5/31/1994. Each game is 30 minutes + 5-scconds delay
per player, rated by the United States Chess Federation (USCF).
Players receive a national chess rating!

     There are 3 sections from which to choose:
1. Varsity, open to all.  
Trophies awarded to the 3 top-scoring players, the top 2 schools, and the top-scoring Unrated player.
The winner also receives free entry to the 2014 overall New York State Championship in Albany
(courtesy of Continental Chess).

 2. Junior-Varsity, open to rated Under 1400 or Unrateds.
 Trophies awarded to the 3 top-scoring players, the top 2 schools, and the top-scoring Unrated player.

3. Novice, open to rated Under 1000 or Unrated. 
Trophies awarded to the 3 top-scoring players, the top 2 schools, and the top-scoring Unrated player.
  

NEW!!  Mixed Doubles Bonus Prizes!
 

    Best male/female 2-player combined score among all three sections (Mixed Doubles “teammates” may  play in different sections and may even be from different schools, average rating of both players must be Under 1800;  teams must declare by 12 pm).

1st Team - $30   2nd Team - $20   3rd Team - $10
 

***  Any player who scores 2.5 or more points and doesn't win a trophy will receive a medal!  ***


Game times:  10 am, 12 Noon, 1:30 pm and 3:00 pm.
Those unable to play all four games may request ½-point byes (unrated draws) in advance for rounds
which they cannot play (limit 2 byes, commit by 12 pm).

FREE ENTRY!
	Official USCF  MAY 2014 RATINGS  will be used for this tournament.  However, 
unofficial ratings at uschess.org will usually be used for players who would otherwise be unrated on the 
USCF Official May 2014 Rating List.
      
	Current USCF Membership is also required to participate.
USCF annual membership dues:
Premium Young Adult membership, age 24/below, $33 extra per player for 12 issues of Chess Life magazine, or
Online Young Adult membership, age 24/below, $26 extra per player for access to Chess Life Online, or
Premium Youth membership, age 15/below, $28 extra per player for 6 issues of Chess Life magazine, or
Online Youth membership, age 15/below, $22 extra per player for access to Chess Life Online, or
Premium Scholastic membership, age 12/below, $24 extra per player for 6 issues of Chess Life For Kids magazine, or
Online Scholastic membership, age 12/below, $17 extra per player for access to Chess Life For Kids Online.

USCF 3-Month Memberships: $10 extra per player, age 24/below (NO MAGAZINE).
or $8 extra per player age 12/below (NO MAGAZINE).
USCF membership dues are paid to the USCF-- USCF membership dues might not be refunded by USCF.

Otherwise,
 1. For players who are not current USCF members, you can join USCF for
     one year here NOW (Note: 3-month memberships are not available on-line,
     they can be purchased on-site, before 9:15 am).
2.  After first paying the USCF annual dues, please register for the tournament
     by clicking HERE.
 
     NO ON-SITE REGISTRATION, except at possible TD discretion, BEFORE 9:15 am.
     PLAYERS WHO REGISTER IN ADVANCE WHO ARE NOT ON-SITE BY 9:30 AM
    SATURDAY ARE SUBJECT TO BEING REMOVED FROM THE PAIRINGS!
